We decided to keep it simple this time around. You can see the insulation better in this photo. It's a few layers of rigid foam, 2x4 stud frame, and plywood over all of it. Lots of wood filler, sanding and latex paint gave us a smooth and washable surface.
I am an engineer at heart, but work a typical factory job simply because (for now) I can't say no to health insurance and a paycheck.
We have decided to give up the American Dream - including our house and credit - to live in a converted 24' GMC T6500 box truck (175 sq ft, plus a 7x14 workshop/trailer) step van (98 sq ft, plus the cab and a tiny rear workshop) and spend our life doing whatever makes us happy. To many, that might sound like we mean kicking back, eating freedom fries, and watching American Idol. What would make us happy is to spend nearly every waking moment learning, exploring, and conducting independent research that is not corrupted by the vested interest of an employer, owned by an institution or driven by our own financial inadequacies.
We're writing this blog to track our progress, but also (hopefully) to make some friends who are on similar paths or help people who would like to be. Don't be shy to drop us a line if you're interested in what we're doing.
glad to see some regular updates again--whats with the green??
ReplyDeleteJust wanted something bright. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat sort of insulation did you use? Is the wall covering just plywood or is it something special>
